I Kings 6:36 Jewish Thought: The Third Beit HaMikdash

And he built the inner court with three rows of hewn stone, and a row of cedar beams.

Radak, by contrast, interprets וְעָב עֵץ as referring to a beam, similar to the lintel of a doorframe that was embedded in the outer façade of the Ulam’s wall. Our Sages refer to this beam as a morish.14See Bava Kama 67a. In the Beis HaMikdash built by King Shlomoh, such beams are referred to as15See I Melachim 6:36. “cedar beams.” It appears to me that the parallel in the Second Beis HaMikdash were the five cedar beams embedded in the façade of the Ulam’s wall.16See Middos 3:7.
