כָּל־אֵ֣לֶּה בְנֵי־אָ֠שֵׁר רָאשֵׁ֨י בֵית־הָאָב֤וֹת בְּרוּרִים֙ גִּבּוֹרֵ֣י חֲיָלִ֔ים רָאשֵׁ֖י הַנְּשִׂיאִ֑ים וְהִתְיַחְשָׂ֤ם בַּצָּבָא֙ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה מִסְפָּרָ֣ם אֲנָשִׁ֔ים עֶשְׂרִ֥ים וְשִׁשָּׁ֖ה אָֽלֶף׃ (ס)
All these were the children of Asher, heads of the fathers’houses, choice and mighty men of valour, chief of the princes. And the number of them reckoned by genealogy for service in war was twenty and six thousand men.

A student quoted him as saying that the verse about the descendants of Asher, calling them chosen warriors, chiefs of the captains, (Chronicles I, 7:40) and signifying their standing in the army and the battlefield was written so that their reputation and prestige of the ancestors might protect them in battle.10)קדושין ע״ו ב׳.
