וַיִּקְרָ֨א דָוִ֜ד אֶל־הָעָ֗ם וְאֶל־אַבְנֵ֤ר בֶּן־נֵר֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הֲל֥וֹא תַעֲנֶ֖ה אַבְנֵ֑ר וַיַּ֤עַן אַבְנֵר֙ וַיֹּ֔אמֶר מִ֥י אַתָּ֖ה קָרָ֥אתָ אֶל־הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (פ)

And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying: ‘Answerest thou not, Abner?’ Then Abner answered and said: ‘Who art thou that criest to the king?’

[(in reference to Avner's not defending David to Saul, when David had demonstrated that he bore Saul no ill [viz. I Samuel 26:14])]. In truth, has there been hidden [from your mouth] the righteousness [i.e., vindication (of me)] that you [should] have spoken [to Saul], the justness [whereby] you [should] have judged men [i.e., me]?
