Tafsiran 1 Samuel 12:22: Tze'enah Ure'enah & Rashi

Tze'enah Ure'enah

“The Lord will not abandon His people, etc.” [12:22]. God will not abandon you, for the sake of His holy name, and will always redeem you. When Israel are in exile, the nations say, your God of Israel cannot help you. Therefore, the Holy One must redeem them from exile, so that God should show His strength and His wonders.

Tze'enah Ure'enah

The Yalkut writes that it is written here, “For the sake of His great name” [12:22]. This means, for the sake of His holy name He does not want to abandon Israel. Elsewhere it is written, “the Lord will not abandon His people, etc.” [12:22]. This means that the Holy One does not abandon Israel because they are the people of God. The explanation is that the Holy One does not abandon Israel outside the land of Israel because they are the people of the Holy One. However, in the land of Israel the Holy One does not abandon Israel for the sake of His holy name.5Yalkut Shimoni, I Samuel, Remez, 117.
