Gdy składał właśnie Samuel całopalenie, przystąpili Filistyni do walki z Izraelem. Wiekuisty jednak zagrzmiał dnia onego gromem potężnym przeciw Filistynom i wprawił ich w popłoch, tak że ponieśli klęskę przed Izraelem.

Out of heaven shall/may He thunder upon them: For the sake of my son, God - may He be blessed - should thunder over the Philistines. And her prayer was fulfilled - like it was written (I Samuel 7:10), "and the Lord thundered with a great sound, etc. against the Philistines."

Deadly upheaval. All upheavals [mentioned in Scripture] are caused by thunder. The following is the origin: "Adonoy thundered with a great noise on that day against the Philistines, making them panic.3Below 7:10. It is so explained in the Aggadah of Thirty-Two Rules of R. ויהם has the meaning of confusion. old French estordison. He cast them into confusion; He took away their ensigns. And we read in the Chapters of Rabbi Eliezer, the son of Rabbi José, the Galilean: Wherever it speaks of מהומה (forms from the root המם) it signifies a thundering sound; and the following passage is the father of all of them (i. e. that from which this meaning is quite evident): (I Samuel 7:10) “And the Lord thundered with a great sound … upon the Philistines and discomfited them (ויהמם)”.

and over all the kingdoms of the lands who came upon Israel. An example of this is in I Samuel (7:10): “And the Lord thundered with a great noise, etc., upon the Philistines and threw them into a panic, etc.” So it is with Jehoshaphat: (II Chron. 20:22): “And at the time they began with song and praise, the Lord stationed, etc.,” and so with Sannecherib, (Isa. 37:36): “And they arose in the morning, and behold they were all dead corpses.” (“And when the wicked perish, there is song.” Prov. 11:10).
