Ohr Ne'erav
Beside this there are other commandments which cannot be properly fulfilled without knowledge of Torah and of this wondrous science. These [commandments] are the love and fear of God. They are commandments addressed to us in the Torah. [Concerning] love, it is written, You will love the Lord your God (Deut. 6:5). [Of] fear it is written, You will fear the Lord your God (Deut. 6:13, 10:20). If one does not comprehend the awesome majesty of His divinity, His separation from the rest of the existents, the origin of all that exists from Him as well as the number of degrees which exist until [His] providence reaches this lowly world, how can one fear Him?

Each and every commandment from the 613 commandments that Moses our teacher, may he rest in peace, commanded us according to the Lord, as it is said (Deuteronomy 33:4), "Moses commanded us the Torah, an inheritance for the congregation of Jacob," is connected to the secret of the Torah, which is in the numerical value of 611. And similarly, it is connected, as it is written (Deuteronomy 10:20), "You shall fear the Lord, your God," and also, "and you shall fear your God," which is the secret of the fear of heaven. And it is also written (Proverbs 1:7), "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction." Now, you should know that there remain from the 613 commandments two commandments, and they are the two extremes. The first extreme is at the pinnacle of elevation that has no elevation beyond it, and it is the secret of knowing the Name. If you think to reach its ultimate, you will need to be a separate intellect. This is prevented from every material entity, but you need to know from it what is not fitting for you to be an intellect in it, from the aspect of being an image of God and having the likeness of God. With the above in mind, it should not be difficult for you to understand the matter of prophecy. This is in line with what our sages, of blessed memory, stated about the verse,858Deuteronomy 11:22 “and to adhere to Him (L’Davkah Bo-לדבקה בו),” and the verse, 859Deuteronomy 10:20“to Him you shall adhere (u’Vo Tidbak-ובו תדבק).” For, a prophet adheres to HaShem-יהו״ה, blessed is He, by drawing down prophecy and influence to the lower worlds, as stated by the Ramban860Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman and all the commentators, of blessed memory. Thus, this in no way is astonishing, since as explained, no light has greater adhesion to the light of the ten Sefirot than the light of the source of the souls, and this is the meaning of the verse,861Deuteronomy 4:4 “You who adhere (Dveikim-דבקים) to HaShem-יהו״ה your God are all alive today.”
