וּשְׁטָחוּם֩ לַשֶּׁ֨מֶשׁ וְלַיָּרֵ֜חַ וּלְכֹ֣ל ׀ צְבָ֣א הַשָּׁמַ֗יִם אֲשֶׁ֨ר אֲהֵב֜וּם וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר עֲבָדוּם֙ וַֽאֲשֶׁר֙ הָלְכ֣וּ אַֽחֲרֵיהֶ֔ם וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר דְּרָשׁ֔וּם וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר הִֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּ לָהֶ֑ם לֹ֤א יֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יִקָּבֵ֔רוּ לְדֹ֛מֶן עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָ֖ה יִֽהְיֽוּ׃
и распространят их перед солнцем, луной и всеми небесными воинствами, которых они любили, и которым они служили, и за кем они ходили и кого искали и кому поклонялись; их не соберут и не похоронят, они будут навозом на лице земли.

Raba said unto Rabba b. Mari: It is written (Jer. 8, 2) They shall not be gathered up, and they shall not be buried, dung upon the face of the ground shall they become, [hence death is disagreeable,] and immediately it follows: And death shall be preferable to life, whereupon the latter answered: "Death shall be preferable to life, refers to the wicked who ought not live in this world and commit sin which causes them to fall in Gehenna."
