MISHNAH: The place of stoning was two man-sizes high; one of the witnesses pushed him at his hips⁵¹As both Talmudim state, Ex. 19:13 implies that throwing down is part of stoning.. If he fell on his breast, he turns him around on his back. If he died from this, it is sufficient; otherwise he takes the stone⁵²According to Tosephta 9:6, a stone which needed two people to be lifted. and puts it on his breast. If he died from this, it is sufficient; otherwise the second witness takes the stone and puts it on his breast⁵³This sentence is missing in all parallels; it may be a case of dittography.. If he died from this, it is sufficient; otherwise the stoning is on all of Israel as it is said: The witnesses’ hand shall be first on him to kill him,the hand of the entire people afterwards⁵⁴Deut. 17:7..

What is the blessing? — ‘Blessed [are You, O Lord our God, King of the Universe] who has sanctified us by Your commandments, and commanded us to kindle the light of Hanukkah’. But where did He command us? “Do not turn aside” (Deuteronomy 17:11). R. Nahman b. Yitzchak said: “Ask your father, and he will tell you” (Deuteronomy 32:7)
