'Сын Человеческий! Они, обитающие в тех пустынных местах на земле Израиля, говорят: Авраам был один, и он унаследовал землю; но нас много; земля передана нам в наследство.
Tosefta Sotah
Rabbi Akiva expounded, behold it says (Ez. 33:24), "Son of man, those who reside in these ruins [of the Land of Israel], etc."*The full verse reads, "Son of man, those who reside in these ruins of the Land of Israel say, 'Abraham was only one [person] and he inherited the Land. Thus, as for us, who are many, have we not been given the Land as an inheritance?'" And are these words not a kol v'chomer (logical deduction)? Since Abraham, who served only one God, inherited the Land, does it not follow that we, who serve many gods, should also inherit the Land?
