Komentaryo sa 1 Mga Hari 1:21: Tze'enah Ure'enah, Rashi & Ralbag

Tze'enah Ure'enah

“When my lord king lies down, etc.” [1:21]. When you, my lord King David will die, like your ancestors, then I and my son Solomon will have misfortune. Some sages say: if Solomon will not become king, people will say that it was because of the sin of David, who took Bathsheba from Uriah the Hittite as a wife and that is why Solomon did not become king. Some sages say, “sins” means, Bathsheba said: when you, David, won’t make Solomon king, you will commit a sin. You swore that you would make Solomon king.13Rashi, I Kings, 1:21.

Tze'enah Ure'enah

As they were talking, Nathan the prophet arrived. They told the king that the prophet had arrived. He came in and bowed low to the floor, to the king. The prophet Nathan said: my lord king, did you say that Adonijah should be king after you and should sit on the throne? I have heard that he has slaughtered many sheep and cattle and is making a great banquet and has invited all the children of the king, also, the chieftain, and Abiathar the priest. They are now eating and drinking and they are saying, long live the king Adonijah. He did not invite me, Zadok the priest, Benaiah, and Solomon to the banquet. Is it your opinion, my lord king, that Adonijah should be the king? You did not notify me who should be king after you.
