Komentaryong Sumisipi para sa Mga Awit 27:4

With this, God directly answers all the questions Job had asked concerning the suffering of the righteous. For it makes him realize that man’s essence is his soul. which is distinct from the body and cleaves to God; to gaze upon the pleasure of the Lord (Psalms 27:4) and to hear His voice from the fire (Deuteronomy 5:20); And this is the essential reward that awaits the righteous after the wasting of the body, when the spirit returns to the Lord who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7).

Even though the sages said: "do not do a mitzva in order to receive a reward" (Avos 1:3). However, [here] his intent is for reward which is acceptable to G-d, namely, that "a mitzva leads to another mitzva...[and the reward of a mitzva is a mitzva]" (Avos 4:2), or likewise the motive "[One thing I ask of the Lord]...to behold the pleasantness of the L-ord" (Tehilim 27:4) through this deed. Understand this.

The third is that one fears that he will be gossiped about that he is despicably stingy, or a glutton and the landlord will tell everything. However when the Holy One is the landlord, he does not disclose anything about what the person does. As we find that a wise person says to his friend: he belittled him and said bad things to people about this wise person. The wise person responded that we must praise the Holy One, day and night. He knows all of our transgressions and does not divulge any of them. The person, who sees a small sin committed by his friend, tells it to all the people in order to shame him. Therefore the verse says, “when he speaks with his enemies in the gate” [Psalms, 127:5]. That is to say, when the Holy One is the landlord, He does not divulge what he does. The enemies do not talk about him in the market where they used to talk about people. They would gather and gossip about how everyone behaved. Therefore, the verse says, “like arrows in the hands of a warrior” [Psalms, 27:4]. That is to say, gossip that one talks about in the market where householders gather and discuss everyone in the community. This is the meaning in the verse of “in the gate.” That is to say, they talk about what someone eats and drinks. This is like an arrow that is shot far and hits a distant person with evil words.
