All this will be caused by those who suffered their fount to fail and produced no fruit here, having no wish to maintain the Holy Covenant. It is they who cause all this and all the transmigrations of which I spake.’ The old man was silent for a moment, and the companions wondered, not knowing whether it was day or night, whether they stood on their heads or their feet.

This is the meaning of what our sages, of blessed memory,¹⁶⁴See Talmud Bavli, Brachot 6a; Zohar I 23b taught on the verse,¹⁶⁵Deuteronomy 28:10 “Then all the peoples of the earth will see that the Name HaShem-יהו״ה is proclaimed over you, and they will fear you.” This great mystery was revealed by Yehoshua, peace be upon him, when the people of Ai killed some of the children of Israel.¹⁶⁶Joshua 7 He said, “Master of the worlds, Your Name HaShem-יהו״ה is singular to the Jewish people alone. If the nations destroy the name of Israel, then,¹⁶⁷Joshua 7:9 ‘What will You do for Your Great Name?’” This is the secret of the verse,¹⁶⁸Daniel 9:19 “For Your Name is proclaimed upon Your city and upon Your people.”
