Greed is the father of all impurity. It brings to hatred and envy, as well as theft, false oaths and even murder. This prohibition is the last of the Ten Commandments and is equal to them all, since459Ecclesiastes 4:8 “his eye is never sated with wealth,” like the eye of the snake, about whom it states,460Isaiah 65:25 “The food of the snake shall be dust.” Similarly, it is written,461Proverbs 28:22 “One who is overeager for wealth has an evil eye, he does not know that want may befall him.”
