וְהָיָ֤ה לְאָדָם֙ לְבָעֵ֔ר וַיִּקַּ֤ח מֵהֶם֙ וַיָּ֔חָם אַף־יַשִּׂ֖יק וְאָ֣פָה לָ֑חֶם אַף־יִפְעַל־אֵל֙ וַיִּשְׁתָּ֔חוּ עָשָׂ֥הוּ פֶ֖סֶל וַיִּסְגָּד־לָֽמוֹ׃
[Das Holz] dient dem Menschen zum Verbrennen, er nimmt davon und wärmt sich, auch heizt er und backt Brot. [Aus demselben Holz] macht er aber auch einen Gott und bückt sich; er hat ein Götzenbild daraus gemacht und kniet davor.

Ibn Ezra on Isaiah
לבער To bum. Then shall it be for a man, etc. Some warm themselves by the fire, others kindle it, etc. ישיק He kindleth it. Comp. נשקה was kindled (Ps. Ixxviii. 21); the meaning of נשק is similar to that of בער to burn.
