וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֔יו הַגִּידָה־נָּ֣א לָ֔נוּ בַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר לְמִי־הָרָעָ֥ה הַזֹּ֖את לָ֑נוּ מַה־מְּלַאכְתְּךָ֙ וּמֵאַ֣יִן תָּב֔וֹא מָ֣ה אַרְצֶ֔ךָ וְאֵֽי־מִזֶּ֥ה עַ֖ם אָֽתָּה׃

Da fragten sie ihn: Sag‘ uns doch, du, um deswillen uns dieses Unglück heimsucht, was ist dein Geschäft, und woher kommst du? Welche ist deine Heimat, und von welchem Volke bist du?
