יָד֙וֹעַ֙ תֵּֽדְע֔וּ כִּי֩ לֹ֨א יוֹסִ֜יף יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֗ם לְהוֹרִ֛ישׁ אֶת־הַגּוֹיִ֥ם הָאֵ֖לֶּה מִלִּפְנֵיכֶ֑ם וְהָי֨וּ לָכֶ֜ם לְפַ֣ח וּלְמוֹקֵ֗שׁ וּלְשֹׁטֵ֤ט בְּצִדֵּיכֶם֙ וְלִצְנִנִ֣ים בְּעֵינֵיכֶ֔ם עַד־אֲבָדְכֶ֗ם מֵ֠עַל הָאֲדָמָ֤ה הַטּוֹבָה֙ הַזֹּ֔את אֲשֶׁר֙ נָתַ֣ן לָכֶ֔ם יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃
So sollt ihr wissen, dass der Herr, euer Gott, nicht fortfahren wird, all diese Völker vor euch auszutreiben; sie werden euch werden zur Schlinge und zum Fallstrick und zur Geißel in eure Seiten und zu Stacheln in eure Augen, bis ihr verstoßen werdet von diesem schönen Boden, den der Herr, euer Gott euch gegeben.

And thorns. This is an expression of camps. Similarly: “And they will come upon you with camps,”2Yechezkeil 23:24. like a shield (צִנָה) that surrounds a person on three sides, as it is said, “As a shield, you encompass him with favor,”3Tehillim 5:13. תַּעְטְרֶנוּ meaning תְּסוֹבְבֶנוּ, surrounding, similar to “And Shaul and his men surrounded David and his men.”4I Shmuel 23:26. עוֹטְרִים meaning סוֹבְבִים, surrounding.
