וְאַתָּ֞ה בֵּֽית־לֶ֣חֶם אֶפְרָ֗תָה צָעִיר֙ לִֽהְיוֹת֙ בְּאַלְפֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה מִמְּךָ֙ לִ֣י יֵצֵ֔א לִֽהְי֥וֹת מוֹשֵׁ֖ל בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וּמוֹצָאֹתָ֥יו מִקֶּ֖דֶם מִימֵ֥י עוֹלָֽם׃
Du aber, Bet-Lehem-Efrata — ob wohl du die winzigste [Macht] bist unter den Geschlechtern Jehudas, gerade aus dir wird jener hervorgehen, der von mir zum Herrscher bestimmt ist in Israel, dessen Ursprung aus der Urzeit ist, aus alten Tagen.
