וָאֵצְאָ֨ה בְשַֽׁעַר־הַגַּ֜יא לַ֗יְלָה וְאֶל־פְּנֵי֙ עֵ֣ין הַתַּנִּ֔ין וְאֶל־שַׁ֖עַר הָאַשְׁפֹּ֑ת וָאֱהִ֨י שֹׂבֵ֜ר בְּחוֹמֹ֤ת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ אֲשֶׁר־המפרוצים [הֵ֣ם ׀] [פְּרוּצִ֔ים] וּשְׁעָרֶ֖יהָ אֻכְּל֥וּ בָאֵֽשׁ׃
Ich ging hinaus zum Taltor in der Nacht, und gegen die Seite der Drachenquelle und zum Misttor, ich betrachtete die niedergerissenen Mauern Jerusalems und ihre Tore, die vom Feuer verzehrt waren.

Ibn Ezra on Nehemiah
ואהי שובר And I surveyed - From "He will think (ויסבר) of changing" (Daniel 7:25). And from the language of the Sages of Blessed Memory: speculation (סברא). And the meaning is I was thinking about and studying the walls.
