Zohar

"And it came to pass at the end of two years" (Beresheet 41:1). Rabbi Chiya opened the discussion with the verse, "He puts an end to darkness, and searches out all perfection, the stone of darkness and the shadow of death" (Iyov 28:3). "He puts an end to darkness" is the end of the left. He hovers about the world; he hovers above and stands before the Holy One, blessed be He, and blames and accuses the world. As it is written, he "searches out all perfection (Heb. תַּכְלִית)," for his deeds are not intended to achieve good, but rather to exterminate (Heb. lechalot) and bring extinction to the world.

22. In the matter of the aforementioned union, the reader must know that, aside from Ḥokhmah and Binah, which are called “Husband” and “Wife,” “Father” and “Mother,” and [whose union] is similar to physical union and mating, there is not to be found [union] between male and female except through the intermediation of the covenant of pudenda.10The generative power of human beings is thought of as an earthly counterpart to the acts of sefirotic generation described. Thus on high these two qualities [Ḥokhmah and Binah] unite in the mystery of the primordial Da’at,11Thus Da’at is an intermediary factor between Ḥokhmah and Binah. which is in the middle between “Father” and “Mother.” Its existence is in the path which the bird of prey does not know (Job 28:7). The result of this union is the existence and renewal of the sefirot, which are continually renewed through their root, which is sunk in the depths of Binah and Ḥokhmah and also continues in the mystery of the soul, which is from Binah. This will be explained in the Tikkunim, with God’s help.12I have been unable to identify the source in Tikkunei Zohar. Likewise the crown with which the Mother crowned the children on the day of their wedding comes [from this], as it is written, Go out and see, O daughters of Zion (Song of Songs 3:11). However, all union requires an arousal from below, and the arousal of Binah [stems] from Malkhut, as Rabbi Simeon bar Yoḥai, peace upon him, explained.

From afar the Most High (Ps. 138:6) has established a decree and has bequeathed of His wisdom to those who fear Him. His lightnings, judgments, and laws will light up (Ps. 97:4) to open blinded eyes (Isa. 42:7) which have never seen the light of Your heavens. They fall and err in mockery. Far from men they swing (Job 28:4), as in a desert.

And this is what they meant by saying that the Neshamah of Neshamah rests upon a person who feels awe and has Wisdom. The Neshamah reaches a person in Binah, as it is written, "And to man He said, Behold the fear of Hashem, that is wisdom (Heb. חָכְמָה)" (Iyov 28:28). The Neshamah comes to a person through repentance, which is called 'Binah' and 'Sarah'. The Ruach is called 'the voice', and is also called 'Da'at.' And this is drawn down to a person who raises his voice in Torah. (The Ruach is) also called the written Torah, and all the positive deeds come from the mental Nefesh.

Come and see, the Holy One, blessed be He, created the world using the Torah. And this has been explained in the verse, "Then I was by Him as a nurseling, and I was daily all His delight" (Prov. 8:30). He looked at the Torah once, twice, and thrice. The fourth time He addressed them. Eventually, He used the Torah to teach people how not to be misled and to misunderstand it. As it is written, "Then He saw and declared it; He established it and searched it out. And He said to man..." [Job 28:27-28]

"And Elohim said to Noah, 'The End of All Flesh is come before Me'" (Gen. 6:13)... 1.'The end of the right' is, as we have previously said, "at the end of the right."

"Cry aloud in the streets", Come and behold, The upper Chochmah is the most concealed of all. It is not to be known or revealed, as it is written, "Man cannot know its price" (Iyov 28:13), for when it was diffused in order to illuminate, it shone on the secret of the World to Come. This World to Come was created from it, as we learned, that the World to Come was created by the Yud, in which Chochmah was covered. And they became one, when everything was adorned with the secret of the World to Come. Everything then is joyfully luminous, everything is silent, never heard outside.

"She opened her mouth with wisdom"because it is concealed and utterly unrevealed, as it is written, "Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky" (Iyov 28:21). When (Binah) started to spread together with Chochmah that cleaved to it and was clothed in it, it issued a sound, which is "a Torah of Chesed."

Come and behold: In the verse, "For He has founded it upon the seas" (Ps. 24:2). (Regarding) the words "For He". Who is He? He is the Holy One, blessed be He. The meaning of this is similar to that of the words,: "It is He who made us" (Ps. 100:3) and that of, "For He looks to the ends of the earth" (Job. 28:24).

Idra Zuta

In the Aggadah of Rav Yeva Saba he says, the rule is that Zeir Anpin is called ‘you’, because it is revealed, and Atika Kadisha that is hidden is called ‘he.’ Now we address that place where beginning lies, which is the brain of thirty-two paths by the name ‘you.’ Even though it is hidden, still the beginning of manifestation lies with it, which is why it is called ‘you’ as well. It is also called father, and is the father of fathers, which are Chesed, Gvurah and Tiferet of Zeir Anpin. This father emerges from Atika Kadisha, as written, “But where (ayin) shall wisdom be found?” (Iyov 28:12)22 Can be also read “Chochmah is found from nothingness” (translator), that is, from Atika Kadisha that is called nothingness (ayin). Therefore, Chochmah is unknown.

Come and see, it is written, “Elohim understands its way” (Ibid. 23), its way literally; because Elohim, which is Zeir Anpin, knows the way Chochmah of the thirty-two paths spreads into the lower Chochmah. But “he,” Atika Kadisha, “knows its place” (Ibid.), its place literally, that is, the actual highest Chochmah, which signifies Aba and Ima and surely Chochmah that is concealed in Atika Kadisha, as it is its own brain.

In the book of Aggadah of Rav Hamnuna Saba we have learned that “Hadar reigned in his place” is certainly the goodly (Hadar) tree, that is, Yesod called the goodly tree, as said, “the fruit of the majestic (hadar) tree” (Vayikra 23:40); wherein Malchut is called fruit and Yesod the tree Hadar. “…and his wife’s name was Mehetavel,” as said, “branches of palm trees” (Ibid.). This is Yesod, referred to in plural, because it is written, “The righteous man flourishes like the palm tree” (Tehillim 92:13), meaning that it does not flourish without the female, because a palm tree consists of male and female. Therefore, it is written, “and his wife’s name was Mehetavel.” This Malchut is called the daughter of Matred, which means she is the daughter of that place that everyone is busy (tarud) trying to attain, called father, that is, Chochmah. It is also written, “Man cannot know its price; nor is it found in the land of the living” (Iyov 28:13). Thus, everyone strives to attain it. According to another interpretation, she is a daughter of the mother, Binah, whence judgments are roused that bother (matridim) everyone. Hence, she is called the daughter of Matred. She is “The daughter of Mei Zahav” because she receives from both sides that illumine in two ways, with Chesed and with judgment, that is, from right and left. The right represents Chesed and is called Mei (water) and the left represents Chochmah and is called Zahav (gold), that is, Mei Zahav (gold water).

The first commandment is read: "I" - [it comes] from the side of Keter, that is Ey"n from "Eloheynu". In "I" [Anochi] there is Kaf, Keter; and there is Eyn. And Keter comes from the side of the Upper Mother, that is mentioned corresponding to the 50 times the Exodus is [mentioned] in Torah. And the Bet from Bereshit includes the Ten Sayings from the side of Chochmah/Wisdom the daughter of 10 since "the earth is established through Wisdom" (Proverbs 3:19). In the Father is established choice, and this is "the way is not known by the falcon" (Job 28:7), that includes the 32 ways, which are the 32 Elohim from the side of the Upper Mother which are called Kavod. And therefore it is included in Choice, which is called 32/Lev/Heart. And accordingly, there is Kavod to the Higher, and 32/Lev/Heart to the Lower.
