אֵ֠לֶּה הַֽחֻקִּ֣ים וְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִים֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּשְׁמְר֣וּן לַעֲשׂוֹת֒ בָּאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר֩ נָתַ֨ן יְהוָ֜ה אֱלֹהֵ֧י אֲבֹתֶ֛יךָ לְךָ֖ לְרִשְׁתָּ֑הּ כָּל־הַיָּמִ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־אַתֶּ֥ם חַיִּ֖ים עַל־הָאֲדָמָֽה׃
Dies sind die Satzungen und Verordnungen, die ihr in dem Land befolgen sollt, das der Herr, der Gott eurer Väter, euch gegeben hat, um es zu besitzen, alle Tage, die ihr auf Erden lebt.

The מקומות in 12,2 which have to be destroyed are a reminder that there is only one מקום, "one place" i.e. G–d who is not confined by space but has created it." The entire passage is understood as a reference to what went wrong in גן עדן and how to go about repairing the damage that had occurred at that time.
