Commentary for Jeremiah 22:27
וְעַל־הָאָ֗רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־הֵ֛ם מְנַשְּׂאִ֥ים אֶת־נַפְשָׁ֖ם לָשׁ֣וּב שָׁ֑ם שָׁ֖מָּה לֹ֥א יָשֽׁוּבוּ׃ (ס)
But to the land whereunto they long to return, thither shall they not return.
Rashi on Jeremiah
they long This is an expression of consolation, that their soul lifts itself to console itself and to say, “We will again return to our land.”
