Responsa for Zechariah 3:14
Shut min haShamayim
They responded: "Kohelet sought to find desirable words... he balanced and examined and invented many parables." (Kohelet 12:9-10) They explained to me that Solomon created fences around what is forbidden, including any similarities. Two hours later, they responded: "Remove these garments of filth! An angel of the Lord spoke: see, I have removed your guilt from you and dressed you with grand robes." (Zechariah 3:4)

Shut min haShamayim
I asked again [in my dream] regarding bread made by non-Jews1lit. 'star-worshippers', whether it is sufficient that a Jew adds a piece of wood to the fire of the oven [for it to be considered baked by a Jew]2This is the opinion of the Rif Avodah Zarah 15b:1. Is there nonetheless a hint of the transgression of baking with vessels of non-Jews? For I was doubtful regarding the meaning of the response I had received the first time I asked, when they responded: "Is this not a brand saved from the fire?" (Zechariah 3:2) They explained: in truth the bread does not become permitted through throwing wood into the fire, unless the fire dies down to embers, and then the flames are rekindled3This opinion is mentioned by Nachmanides (Chiddushei Ramban on Avodah Zarah 35b), who also cites Raavad as holding that the kindling added by the Jew needs to have a significant rather than symbolic function. Therefore we said that one can be saved from all transgression by means of the fire4i.e, if the act of adding wood is done correctly, as described here, then one is saved from the transgression of eating food cooked by non-Jews. "See, we have inquired into this and it is so. Hear it and accept it!" (Job 5:27) All this they responded.
