It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

Jerusalem Talmud Chagigah

Rebbi Yose ben Ḥanina said, one who aggrandizes himself by the disgrace of another person has no part in the Future World. He may not have part in the great good. Rebbi Levi said, it is written79Prov. 25:2., the glory of God is hiding things, etc. The glory of God is hiding things, before the world was created; the glory of kings is investigating things, after the world was created.
