וַֽיְהִ֧י הַמַּבּ֛וּל אַרְבָּעִ֥ים י֖וֹם עַל־הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיִּרְבּ֣וּ הַמַּ֗יִם וַיִּשְׂאוּ֙ אֶת־הַתֵּבָ֔ה וַתָּ֖רָם מֵעַ֥ל הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Y fué el diluvio cuarenta días sobre la tierra; y las aguas crecieron, y alzaron el arca, y se elevó sobre la tierra.

Guide for the Perplexed

THE word ram (high) is a homonym, denoting elevation in space, and elevation in dignity, i.e., greatness, honour, and power. It has the first meaning in “And the ark was lifted up (va-tarom) above the earth” (Gen. 7:17); and the latter meaning in “I have exalted (harimoti) one chosen out of the people” (Ps. 89:20); “Forasmuch as I have exalted (harimoti) thee from amongst the dust” (1 Kings 16:2); “Forasmuch as I exalted (harimoti) thee from among the people” (1 Kings 14:7).
