Torah Ohr
“For as the new heavens and the new earth…” Now, it is written: “In the beginning G-d created the heavens and the earth.” Our Sages, of blessed memory, said that Bereishit — “In the beginning” — means “for the sake of Israel,” who are called reishit, “beginning.” They also said that it means “for the sake of the Torah,” which is called reishit. Therefore, since the heavens and the earth were created for the sake of Torah and Israel, it must be said that there is an aspect of “heavens” and “earth” within the Torah and within the divine service of Israel. Through these spiritual dimensions, and by means of them, the physical heavens and earth are sustained.
