Ramban
AFTER THE ETERNAL YOUR G-D SHALL YE WALK. This is a commandment that we follow His counsel, and of Him alone shall we inquire concerning every hidden thing and inquire concerning the future, as it is written, and she went to inquire of the Eternal;145Genesis 25:22. because the people come unto me to inquire of G-d.146Exodus 18:15. And so did the Israelites do with the prophets, [as it is said,] Is there not here a prophet of the Eternal, that we may inquire of the Eternal through him?;147II Kings 3:11. that the Eternal thy G-d may tell us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing we should do.148Jeremiah 42:3. And in the Sifre it is stated:149Sifre, R’eih 85. “After the Eternal your G-d [shall ye walk] — this refers to the cloud [of Glory].”150See Ramban to Numbers 9:19: “They did the will of G-d in following after the cloud [of Glory].” See also my Hebrew commentary here p. 406. This is as we have explained, that we are to hearken to the “voice” of His signs and follow His counsel.
Derekh Chayyim
The ninth, with the service of sages: that one should serve sages, and then one is prepared to receive Torah, and in the first chapter of Brachot (Bavli Brachot 7b.26), "R Yohanan said in the name of Rashb"i, its service is greater than its learning..., as it says (2 Kings 3:11): 'Here is Elisha ben Shafat, who poured water on the hands of Eliyahu' it didn't say learned, it only said poured." And the interpretation is because one who serves 'a student of sages', the student connects with the teacher [who is the 'student of sages'], by dint of their service of the Torah, and and by this means the student receives from the teacher, because without a doubt, when a wick gets close to a candle, the candle will ignite the wick, and thus when the student draws close to the teacher, by dint of their service, the Torah will influence them. And it is not like that when the student learns from the teacher without drawing close to the teacher, that they will learn from them as when they serve the 'student of sages', which is itself drawing close to the 'student of sages', and thus receives from them, because coming to learn from the teacher isn't connection to them, only serving them is connection to them, and this matter will be further elucidated in Netivot Olam.
Rashi
And pour them. Elisha (poured) on his hands, and his fingers became like springs,16See Maseches Eruvin 23b. and the ditch became full. This is the meaning of what is stated, “Here is Elisha the son of Shofot who poured water on Eliyahu’s hands,”17Rashi explains from where they got the water to fill the entire ditch. and a miracle took place with the water through him, [i.e.,] he is worthy that a miracle should take place with water through him.18II Melochim 3:11.
