אֲנִ֧י יְהוָ֛ה חֹקֵ֥ר לֵ֖ב בֹּחֵ֣ן כְּלָי֑וֹת וְלָתֵ֤ת לְאִישׁ֙ כדרכו [כִּדְרָכָ֔יו] כִּפְרִ֖י מַעֲלָלָֽיו׃ (ס)
Moi, l’Éternel, moi je scrute les cœurs, je sonde les reins, je sais payer chacun selon ses voies, selon le fruit de ses œuvres.

“I the Lord probe the heart” [17:10]. The Holy One said: I know what is in the heart of a person and understand everything. Therefore, I can properly pay each one according to his deeds. I do not make mistakes. The person cannot give me false excuses that he did not commit the sin wholeheartedly. I know what is in the heart of the person.
