“Joshua gave the order to the officials of the people” [1:10]. Joshua gave the order to those officials of the people. They should go among the people of Israel and say to the people that they should prepare food and drink, for in three days they will cross the Jordan to conquer the land of Israel.

And Yehoshua commanded. He did this on the day that completed the days of mourning for Moshe.¹⁹Moshe died on the seventh day of Adar and he was mourned for thirty days. See Devorim 34:8.
