Sha'arei Orah
We must now awaken you to the great principle found in the verse,270Micah 1:3 “For behold, HaShem-יהו״ה is departing from His place.” About this verse, our sages, of blessed memory, stated,271Talmud Yerushalmi, Taanit 2:1 “He is departing from His quality of mercy-Rachamim and coming to His quality of judgment-Din.” However, what is His place-Makom-מקום? Does the verse not state,272Isaiah 40:12 “Who is it that measured the waters in His palm, gauged the Heavens with a span, measured the dust of the earth in a huge vessel, weighed the mountains with a scale and the hills with a balance?” Our sages, of blessed memory, have already stated,273Midrash Bereishit Rabba 68:9 “He is the place-Makom-מקום of the world, but the world is not His place-Makom-מקום.” Similarly, another verse states,274Kings I 8:27 “Behold! The heavens and the heavens of the heavens cannot contain You!” This being so, what is His place, and how can this verse state, “Behold, HaShem-יהו״ה is departing from His place”?
