Les Psaumes 19:8 Midrash : Otzar Midrashim, Mekhilta DeRabbi Yishmael, Midrash Tehillim & Shir HaShirim Rabbah

Otzar Midrashim

One verse says "The Torah of Hashem is perfect" (Psalms 19:8) and it is written "Remember the Torah of Moses My servant" (Malachi 3:22). You find in every... advantage. Moses gave his soul for three matters which were called by his name: For the Torah, for the laws, and for Israel. He gave his soul for the laws and they were called by his name, as it says "Judges and officers shall you place for yourself" (Deuteronomy 16:18). It does not say "shall you place" but "for yourself", and behold they belong only to the Omnipresent, as it says "For judgment is God's" (Deuteronomy 1:17). But Moses gave his soul for them and they were called by his name. He gave his soul for Israel and they were called by his name, as it says "If this is how You treat me, then kill me now" (Numbers 11:15). The Omnipresent said to him, "By your life, you gave your soul for them - I will call them by your name", as it says "Go down, for your people whom you brought up from Egypt have corrupted themselves" (Exodus 32:7). Behold they belong only to the Omnipresent, as it says "But they are Your people" (Deuteronomy 9:12). But Moses gave his soul for them and they were called by his name. He gave his soul for the Torah, as it says "And he was there with Hashem forty days" (Exodus 34:28). The Omnipresent said, "By your life, I will not call it except by your name", as it says "Remember the Torah of Moses My servant" (Malachi 3:22). Behold the Torah belongs to the Omnipresent, as it says "The Torah of Hashem is perfect." But Moses gave his soul for it and it was called by his name...

Mekhilta DeRabbi Yishmael

Moses devoted his life to three things, and they were (all) called by his name. He devoted his life to Torah and it was called by his name, viz. (Malachi 3:22) "Remember the Torah of Moses, My servant." Now is it not the Torah of G–d? viz. (Psalms 19:8) "The Torah of the L–rd is whole, restoring the soul." How, then, are we to understand "the Torah of Moses, My servant"? Because he devoted his life to it, it is called by his name.

Midrash Tehillim

“But his delight is in the Torah of God” (Psalms 1:2), this refers to that which is written, “in your glory, win success; ride [on in the cause of truth and humble-rectitude; and let your right hand teach you wonderous things]” (Psalms 45:5). Glorious is the teacher at the time that he gathers the sages [together], not to flatter them, but [from a sincere desire to clarify] the truth. Glorious and praiseworthy were the teachings of Rabbi Yochanan and Rabbi Shimon ben Lakish, because they would sit and sharpen them [by debating with one another]; “let you right hand teach you wonderous things” (Psalms 45:5) – Rabbi Chiyya said, “if your desire is in the Torah, which was written in wonderous fire, and which was given with [God’s] right hand, as it is said, “from His right hand went a fiery law for them” (Deuteronomy 33:2), then you are destined to sit, and discern, and teach instructions [in Torah law].” Rabbi Abba said, “If your desire is in the Torah, it will end up being called by your name, like the Mishna of Rabbi Hoshaiya, and [the Mishna] of Bar Kapara, and their like. And why are [whole collections of teachings] named after those two? Because they toiled in [Torah]. You should know that this is the case [with the] Torah [itself] which [originally] belongs to the Holy One, blessed be He, as it is said, “the Torah of God is perfect,” (Pslams 19:8). And [then] Moses ascended to the heights, and he made forty days there, and he gave his soul over to it, [and] for that reason [the Torah] is [now] named after him, as it is said, “Remember the Torah of Moses my servant” (Malachi 3:22).”
