Another explanation: We find that Jacob was punished for those 22 years during which he did not fulfill the commandment of honoring father and mother. One might question this — didn’t he go with his father and mother’s permission and at their command? Why was he punished for all those days? Even if you say he transgressed what his mother said and stay with him a few days (Genesis 27:44), why was he still punished for all those days? Rather, certainly since his father told him “Arise, go to Padan Aram,” he permitted him to go but not to leave entirely. For anyone who goes with the intention to return, or whose thoughts still wander back there, is called “going” but not “leaving.” But he did not do this — rather, Jacob left completely, as if he forgot his father and mother’s entire household. Therefore, he was punished measure for measure — one of his sons, Joseph, did not honor him for 22 years and did not remember him, forgetting him, as it is written For God has made me forget all my toil and all my father’s house (Genesis 41:51). Joseph knew this was from God, which is why he said, God has made me forget. However, in his righteousness, he had a desire and wish to keep his father’s house always in remembrance before his eyes, but he could not because God made me forget.

אעבדך שבע שנים I WILL SERVE THEE SEVEN YEARS — These are the “few days” of which his mother had spoken to him (27:44)): “And thou shalt tarry with him a few days”. You can see that this is so, for it is written (v. 20) “And they (the seven years) were in his eyes (i.e. according to his view) the few days” of which his mother had spoken (Genesis Rabbah 70:17).

כימים אחדים "Like a few days" (Lit: like singular days) The wording of אחדים comes to represent a few, as the author explained above (see Genesis 27:44). Its saying that so great was his love for her (Rachel) that the passage of 7 years of work was as easy in his eyes as 7 days of work
