Et votre ouvrage impie, ce veau que vous aviez fabriqué, je m’en saisis, le jetai au feu, le mis entièrement en pièces et le réduisis en menue poussière; puis je répandis cette poussière dans le torrent qui descend de la montagne.

שפאה – it is the Aramaic translation of (Deuteronomy 9:21): “I broke it to bits and ground it thoroughly,” and you crushed it well.

ארור האיש אשר יעשה פסל ומסכה, “cursed be the man who will construct a hewn image, etc.” Our sages in Avodah Zarah 52 understand the wording to mean that the curse becomes effective from the time construction of that image commences. We find proof of this in Deut. 9,21: “and the sin which you had constructed, the golden calf, etc.” Clearly, Moses considered the golden calf as a sin before it had even emerged from the crucible.

Rashi

הוא ישופך HE WILL BRUISE (or, POUND) THEE— Like (Deuteronomy 9:21), “And I beat in pieces” which Onkelos translates by ושפית “I pounded it.”

Rashi

would crush me Heb. ישופני, would crush me. “I crushed it and ground it” (Deut. 9:21) is translated into Aramaic as: ושפית יתֵה.

Rashi

ויכתום AND COMPLETELY DISCOMFITED THEM — This word is the same in meaning as (Deuteronomy 9:21) “and I pounded it (ואכות) and ground it very thin”. The text implies: blow upon blow.
