pour la femme qui souffre, lors de son isolement; pour la personne, homme ou femme, dont le flux se prolonge, et pour l’homme qui cohabite avec une femme impure."
Avot DeRabbi Natan
What is the fence that the Torah made around its words? It says (Leviticus 18:19), “Do not come near woman during her period of impurity.” Perhaps [you would still think] one could hug her and kiss her and speak flirtatiously with her. So the verse tells you, “Do not come near.” Perhaps [you would still think] one could sleep next to her on the bed, as long as she was clothed. So the verse tells you, “Do not come near.” Perhaps [you would still think] she could wash her face and put makeup on her eyes. So the verse (Leviticus 15:33) tells you, “She is in her period of exile” – that is, all the days that she is in her period [of impurity], she will be in exile. Because of this they said: The spirit of the sages is pleased with anyone who makes herself unattractive during the days of her period [of impurity]. The spirit of the sages is displeased with anyone who makes herself attractive during the days of her period [of impurity].
Jerusalem Talmud Nazir
It is written155Lev. 15:33, the final verse of the chapter dealing with impurity caused by the human body.: “The unwell woman in her separation and the sufferer from flux in his flux.” Since the menstruating woman may become impure also by accident, so the sufferer from flux may become impure also by accident156Since the two kinds of impurity are mentioned together.. Then even at his first episode157But the Mishnah declares that outside influences are disregarded only after the sufferer from flux is subject to a week-long impurity.? Rebbi Ze‘ira said, from the moment he becomes like a menstruating woman158Whose impurity always extends for seven days..
Jerusalem Talmud Gittin
It is written186Lev. 15:33. The same argument in the Babli, Šabbat 64b, Sifra Meṣoraʻ Pereq 9(12).: “And the unwell in her menstruation and the sufferer from gonorrhea in his flow.” The earlier Elders used to say, “she shall be in her menstruation187Lev. 15:19.”, she shall not use kohl nor any make-up until she comes into water. Rebbi Aqiba said to them: Is that a reason? If you say so, she makes herself ugly and he starts thinking to divorce her. It turns out that the Elders follow the House of Shammai188Since she cannot be divorced, it does not matter how she looks. and Rebbi Aqiba the House of Hillel189In the Mishnah, R. Aqiba does not disagree with the House of Hillel; he simply takes their argument to its logical conclusion..
