Tes regards se seront à peine posés sur la fortune, qu’elle ne sera plus; car elle ne manquera pas de s’acquérir des ailes, tel un aigle qui s’envole dans les cieux.
Berakhot
R. Isaac also said : Whoever reads the Shema' upon his bed, the evil spirits flee from him ; as it is said, "And the sons of Reshef fly upwards ['uf] " (Job v. 7). 'Uf means nothing else than Torah ; as it is said, "Wilt thou set [hata'if] thine eyes upon it? It is gone" (Prov. xxiii. 5). And Reshef means nothing else than "evil spirits"; as it is said, "The wasting of hunger, and the devouring of the fiery bolt [Reshef] and bitter destruction" (Deut. xxxii. 24).
Chagigah
Which [wings] were subtracted? Rav Chananel said, Rav said, "The ones that they say praises with. It is written here, 'And with two he would fly (heb. Ye'ofeif), and this one called to that one and said (Isaiah 6:2),' and it is written, 'Shall you place (heb. HaSa'if) your eye upon it and it is gone (Proverbs 23:5).'"
Megillah
R. Abbahu said: R. Meir is different, because to him could be applied the verse, "Let your eyes look in front, and gaze straight before you" (Proverbs 4:25). Rami b. Hama asked R. Jeremiah from Difti: What is the meaning of "Let your eyes [af'apekha] look in front, and gaze straight before you"? He replied: This refers to the words of the Torah, of which it is written, "Will your eyes fly over it [ta'if] and it is gone?" (Proverbs 23:5). And even so, they were produced correctly by R. Meir.
