אֵיכָה֙ יוּעַ֣ם זָהָ֔ב יִשְׁנֶ֖א הַכֶּ֣תֶם הַטּ֑וֹב תִּשְׁתַּפֵּ֙כְנָה֙ אַבְנֵי־קֹ֔דֶשׁ בְּרֹ֖אשׁ כָּל־חוּצֽוֹת׃ (ס)

Hélas. Comme l’or est terni, et altéré le métal précieux! Comme les pierres sacrées se trouvent éparpillées à tous les coins de rue!

Ecclesiastes

A time to cast out "stones" [(the youths of Israel, cast out at the ruin of the Temple, viz. Eichah 4:1)] and a time to gather in "stones" [(from the exile, viz. Zechariah 9:16)]. A time to embrace [(viz. Jeremiah 13:11)], and a time to refrain from embracing [(viz. Isaiah 6:12)].

Lamentations

The kings of the earth could not believe, and all the inhabitants of the world, that the oppressor and the foe could enter the gates of Jerusalem.

Lamentations

Because of the sins of her prophets, the transgressions of her priests, the spilling in her midst of the blood of the righteous.
