God the Lord The Master of justice and the Master of clemency.

בורא שמים He that shaped⁸A. V., Created. the heavens. There is a line, by which they are bordered.⁹The bordering line is probably the horizon. This remark of I. E. is intended to support the opinion that the verb ברא has the meaning to shape or to cut. By the bordering line the shape of the heavens is given; in that line they have been, as it were, cut. If, however, by שמים I. E. understands the spheres, the line must refer to the axis, which gives them a definite shape with regard to form and magnitude.
