Shriveled. They became shriveled, and there is [an expression] like this in the language of the Mishnah, “It fell into the fire and its intestines were scorched וְנֶחְמְרוּ.”⁶⁶Maseches Chulin 3:3.

Within, it is like death. Within the house was fear of demons, destructive beings, and angels of death; and from without, the enemy’s sword was bereaving them.
