They lurked behind our steps. Our enemies stalked our footsteps [and prevented us] from walking in our streets, as in, “but for one who had not lain in ambush צָדָה”²⁶Shemos 21:13. [and as in,] “but you are stalking צָדָה my soul.”²⁷I Shmuel 34:12.
