Virgin. Babylon is like a virgin, that has not yet been deflowered.¹That is, for a long period; but strictly speaking, Babylon had been conquered before by the Assyrians. See Niebuhr, Gesch. As. and B. p. 179.

for no longer [lit. for you shall not continue,] that they call you tender and delicate.
