Tafsiran Yehezkiel 37:6: Tze'enah Ure'enah & Rashi

Tze'enah Ure'enah

“There were sinews on them” [37:6]. I will give you sinews, flesh, skin and a spirit and you will live. You will know that I am God. One asks a question. Why did Ezekiel first talk about giving sinews and then flesh and then skin? Job said to the Holy One. You have given me a skin over my body and then he says, you have given me flesh and then he says, you have surrounded me with bones and sinews. The explanation is that Job said and praised God the way God had created him in his mother’s womb.2Job, 10:11. There, the Holy One first created skin and then flesh and then bone and sinews. However, with Ezekiel the bones had previously been people and each person had been created. Therefore, Ezekiel said sinews first and then flesh and then skin.3Yalkut Shimoni, Ezekiel, Remez, 377. It is a parable. When a person takes off his clothing, he first takes off his jacket, then his shirt and if he wants to get dressed again he must first put on the shirt and then the jacket. So it is with these bones. First they put on the sinews on their body. They were inside the body, and then flesh that is on the body and then the skin that is on the outside of the body over the flesh, like a jacket is over the body.

Rashi

And I will lay sinews upon you, etc. But in the Book of Job it says (10:11): “You clothe me with skin and flesh” first, and afterwards, “and You cover me with bones and sinews.” But to what were these similar? To a man who undresses and then dresses [himself] again, in which case, what he took off last he puts on first, whereas at the beginning of the creation of the fetus, skin and flesh come first and afterwards bones and sinews.
