Tafsiran Yehezkiel 44:31: Tze'enah Ure'enah & Rashi

Tze'enah Ure'enah

“Priests should not eat anything, whether bird or animal, that has died or was torn by beasts” [44:31]. The priest should not eat an animal that died or was killed by beasts. Even an ordinary Jew who is not a priest should not eat an animal that died or was killed by beasts. The priest must separate himself from all impurity, in the expectation that he will enter the Sanctuary in purity.

Rashi

Anything that has died of itself or is fatally wounded, etc. Since nipping the neck of the bird sin- offering was permitted, which is [tantamount to] an animal that died of itself or was fatally wounded [since it is not the normal method of slaughter], he had to warn them concerning [eating] other creatures that died of themselves or were fatally wounded. So our Sages explain.
