וַיִּצְעֲק֣וּ אֶל־יְהוָ֗ה וַיָּ֨שֶׂם מַֽאֲפֵ֜ל בֵּינֵיכֶ֣ם ׀ וּבֵ֣ין הַמִּצְרִ֗ים וַיָּבֵ֨א עָלָ֤יו אֶת־הַיָּם֙ וַיְכַסֵּ֔הוּ וַתִּרְאֶ֙ינָה֙ עֵינֵיכֶ֔ם אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־עָשִׂ֖יתִי בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם וַתֵּשְׁב֥וּ בַמִּדְבָּ֖ר יָמִ֥ים רַבִּֽים׃
Mereka berseru kepada Yang Mahakekal, lalu Ia menaruh kegelapan di antara kamu dan orang Mesir. Ia mendatangkan laut ke atas mereka dan menutupi mereka. Matamu sendiri telah melihat apa yang Aku lakukan di Mesir. Lalu kamu tinggal di padang gurun untuk waktu yang lama.

And He brought the sea upon “him.”4Why is the singular עָלָיו, upon him used in the text? Rashi goes on to explain its significance. He brought the sea upon each individual among them. If it happened that one of them ran away, in order not to enter the sea, a sea-wave would pursue him and catch him.
