Sha'arei Kedusha
We thus find that prophecy (Nevuah) and the Holy Spirit (Ru’ach HaKodesh) must necessarily be found in the world, and are easy to attain, on condition that there are people who are fitting for it. However, this is impossible for a blemished soul. We therefore must explain what obstructs this.
Sha'arei Kedusha
When the influence of the Holy Spirit (Ru’ach HaKodesh) is roused to descend to man and dwell upon him, if he is a sinner, the evil inclination (Yetzer) causes there to be a dark veil that separates between his intellectual soul (Nefesh HaSeechleet) and the source of the Holy Spirit (Ru’ach HaKodesh). About this the verse states,866Isaiah 59:2 “Rather, only your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your transgressions have caused Him to hide His face from you etc.” Thus, the Holy Spirit (Ru’ach HaKodesh) of Divine Inspiration does not rest upon him, because of transgressing the 365 prohibitions that blemish the intellectual soul (Nefesh HaSeechleet), as discussed in section of one of this book.
Sha'arei Orah
Even about the land of Israel it is written,361Isaiah 59:2 “Your iniquities have separated between you and your God.” This was said about the land of Israel and certainly applies outside of the land. This being so, what will be with all the prayers of the Jewish people who are outside the land? Know that the prayers offered outside the land have no way to ascend before HaShem-יהו״ה, blessed is He, except when the Jewish people send them from outside of the land and direct them to Jerusalem. When they arrive in Jerusalem, they then are elevated and ascend above. This is the meaning Daniel’s prayer in the exile, in that,362Daniel 6:11 “He had windows open in his upper story, facing Jerusalem, and three times a day he fell to his knees and prayed and gave thanks before his God.”
