וְצַוּ֣וּ אוֹתָם֮ לֵאמֹר֒ שְׂאֽוּ־לָכֶ֨ם מִזֶּ֜ה מִתּ֣וֹךְ הַיַּרְדֵּ֗ן מִמַּצַּב֙ רַגְלֵ֣י הַכֹּהֲנִ֔ים הָכִ֖ין שְׁתֵּים־עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה אֲבָנִ֑ים וְהַעֲבַרְתֶּ֤ם אוֹתָם֙ עִמָּכֶ֔ם וְהִנַּחְתֶּ֣ם אוֹתָ֔ם בַּמָּל֕וֹן אֲשֶׁר־תָּלִ֥ינוּ ב֖וֹ הַלָּֽיְלָה׃ (ס)

dan perintahkanlah mereka: ‘Angkatlah dari sini, dari tengah-tengah sungai Yordan, dari tempat kaki para imam berdiri dengan kokoh, dua belas batu, lalu bawalah batu-batu itu menyeberang bersama kalian dan letakkanlah di tempat kalian akan bermalam malam ini.’”

AND HE TOOK OF THE STONES OF THE PLACE. This is an allusion to the twelve precious and wondrous stones of the upper layer, of which it is written, “Take you… twelve stones” (Josh. 4, 3), and underneath which there are thousands and myriads of hewn stones. Hence it says “of the stones”, and not simply “the stones.
