Midras Yosua 15:13: Sefer HaYashar (midrash) & Bereshit Rabbah

וּלְכָלֵ֣ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֗ה נָ֤תַן חֵ֙לֶק֙ בְּת֣וֹךְ בְּנֵֽי־יְהוּדָ֔ה אֶל־פִּ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לִֽיהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ אֶת־קִרְיַ֥ת אַרְבַּ֛ע אֲבִ֥י הָעֲנָ֖ק הִ֥יא חֶבְרֽוֹן׃

Kepada Kaleb bin Yefune, Yosua memberikan bagian di tengah-tengah bani Yehuda, sesuai dengan titah Yang Mahakekal kepada Yosua, yaitu Kiryat-Arba. Arba adalah bapa Enak. Kota itu ialah Hebron.

therefore Hebron became an inheritance for Caleb and his children even unto this day. And ‎Joshua divided the whole land by lots for an inheritance unto all Israel, as the Lord had ‎commanded unto him. And the Israelites gave from their own inheritance, cities for the ‎Levites to dwell therein and places for their cattle and other property; as the Lord had ‎commanded unto Moses so did the children of Israel, and they divided the land by lots, ‎whether great or small. And when the children of Israel went to take possession of their land ‎according to their boundaries, the children of Israel gave unto Joshua the son of Nun an ‎inheritance in their midst; according to the word of God, they gave unto him the city which he ‎asked for, even Timnath-serach in Mount Ephraim, and he built the city and he dwelt therein. - ‎These are the possessions which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads ‎of the fathers of the tribes divided among the children of Israel by lot in Shiloh, at the door of ‎the tabernacle. And after the division was concluded, the Lord gave unto the children of Israel ‎the land and they possessed it, as the Lord had spoken unto them, and as the Lord had sworn ‎unto their ancestors. And the Lord gave them rest from all their enemies round about them, ‎and no man could stand against them, and the Lord delivered all their enemies into their ‎hands. And not one word remained unfulfilled of all the good that the Lord had spoken ‎concerning the children of Israel, for the Lord had performed everything. And Joshua called all ‎the children of Israel and he blessed them and he commanded them to serve the Lord, and ‎then he dismissed them, and every one returned to his tent and to his possession. And the ‎children of Israel served the Lord through all the lifetime of Joshua, and the Lord gave them ‎rest from all their surroundings, and they dwelt in their cities securely.

Bereshit Rabbah

“Sarah died in Kiryat Arba, which is Hebron, in the land of Canaan; Abraham came to lament for Sarah, and to weep for her” (Genesis 23:2).
“Sarah died in Kiryat Arba” – it was called by four names: Eshkol,9See Numbers 13:22–24. Mamre,10See Genesis 13:18. Kiryat Arba, Hebron.
Why does it [the Torah] call it Kiryat Arba? It is because four [arba’a] righteous men resided there: Aner, Eshkol and Mamre, and Abraham, and four righteous men were circumcised there: Abraham, Aner, Eshkol, and Mamre. Alternatively, it is because four righteous men, patriarchs of the world, were buried there: Adam the first man, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Alternatively, it is because four matriarchs are buried there: Eve, Sarah, Rebecca, and Leah. And [it is called this also] after its lords, who numbered four, the giant and his three sons.11See Joshua 15:14.
Rabbi Azarya said: It is [so named] because it was from there that our patriarch Abraham departed when he pursued [the armies of] the four kingdoms, who were world leaders.12See Genesis chapter 14. It is [so named also] because it fell by lottery to four parties: Initially to Judah, then to Caleb, then to the Levites, and then to the priests.13See Joshua 15:13, 21:10–11, 21:13.
Also, it is one of the four undesirable places in the Land of Israel. What were they? Rabbi Yitzḥak and the Rabbis, Rabbi Yitzḥak said: Dor, the Dor District, Timnat Seraḥ, and Hebron. The Rabbis say: Dana, Kiryat Sana, Timnat Seraḥ, and Hebron.

At that time the Lord said unto Moses: Behold, the days are approaching for thee to die. Take ‎thou Joshua, the son of Nun, thy servant, and place him in the tabernacle that I may give him ‎my commandments, and Moses did so.‎‏ ‏And the Lord appeared in the tabernacle in a pillar of ‎cloud, and the pillar of cloud stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord commanded ‎Joshua, the sun of Nun, saying unto him: Be thou strong and courageous for thou shalt bring ‎the children of Israel to the land which I have given unto them, and I will be with thee.‎‏ ‏And ‎Moses said unto Joshua: Be strong and courageous, for thou wilt cause the children of Israel to ‎inherit the land, and the Lord will be with thee, He will not leave thee nor forsake thee. Fear ‎not and be not dismayed.‎‏ ‏And Moses called to all Israel and he said unto them: Ye have seen ‎all the good which the Lord your God hath done for you in the wilderness. Now therefore ‎observe ye all the words of this law and walk in the way of the Lord your God, do not turn from ‎the path which the Lord hath commanded you, neither to the right nor to the left. And Moses ‎taught the child ren of Israel statutes, and judgments, and laws, to practice them in the land, ‎as the Lord had commanded him, behold they are written in the book of the law of God which ‎he gave unto the children of Israel by the hand of Moses. And when Moses had finished ‎instruct ing the children of Israel, the Lord said unto him: Go up to Mount Abarim and die ‎there, and thou shalt be gathered to thy people like unto Aaron, thy brother. And Moses went ‎up, as the Lord had commanded unto him, and he died there, in the land of Moab, in the ‎fortieth year of the children of Israel’s departure from the land of Egypt. And the children of ‎Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab, thirty days; so the days of mourning for Moses ‎were ended.‎
