כִּ֣י יִפָּלֵא֩ מִמְּךָ֨ דָבָ֜ר לַמִּשְׁפָּ֗ט בֵּֽין־דָּ֨ם ׀ לְדָ֜ם בֵּֽין־דִּ֣ין לְדִ֗ין וּבֵ֥ין נֶ֙גַע֙ לָנֶ֔גַע דִּבְרֵ֥י רִיבֹ֖ת בִּשְׁעָרֶ֑יךָ וְקַמְתָּ֣ וְעָלִ֔יתָ אֶל־הַמָּק֔וֹם אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִבְחַ֛ר יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ בּֽוֹ׃
Apabila suatu perkara terlalu sulit bagimu untuk diputuskan, yaitu antara darah dan darah, antara perkara hukum dan perkara hukum, dan antara tanda penyakit kulit dan tanda penyakit kulit, yakni perkara-perkara perselisihan di kota-kotamu, maka engkau harus bangkit dan naik ke tempat yang akan dipilih oleh Yang Mahakekal, Allahmu.
The Jewish Spiritual Heroes
After a short time there was also founded in Jabneh a court having the same powers as the court in Jerusalem. The text of the Bible that “if a thing shall be hidden from you in a judgment between blood and blood or between one claim and another or between one damage and another in a dispute within your gates, you shall arise and go to the place which the Lord God will choose” (Deut. 17:8) they interpreted to mean that the court gives authority to the place where it is located and not the place to the court; it was therefore concluded that Jabneh might also be such a place.
