Why should he not make the declaration180Why should the necessity of introducing demay lead to the disestablishment of the declaration? The remedy indicates that the not too religiously scrupulous could omit the incriminating passages without anybody noticing, which shows that Joḥanan’s order was not followed in subsequent generations.? Rebbi Hila said, he causes anger before the Omnipresent by saying “I did” when he did not. If it is so, he who separated should make the declaration, he who did not separate should not make the declaration, as we have stated: “Up to ‘Look down’ they were saying it in an undertone, from ‘Look down’ onwards in a high voice.”
