וַיֹּ֣אמֶר בֹּ֔עַז בְּיוֹם־קְנוֹתְךָ֥ הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה מִיַּ֣ד נָעֳמִ֑י וּ֠מֵאֵת ר֣וּת הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּ֤ה אֵֽשֶׁת־הַמֵּת֙ קניתי [קָנִ֔יתָה] לְהָקִ֥ים שֵׁם־הַמֵּ֖ת עַל־נַחֲלָתֽוֹ׃
Lalu Boas berkata: “Pada hari engkau membeli tanah itu dari tangan Naomi, engkau juga harus memperoleh Rut, perempuan Moab itu, istri orang yang telah meninggal itu, untuk menegakkan nama orang yang telah meninggal itu atas milik pusakanya.”
Ruth
And also Ruth the Moavitess, the wife of Machlon, have I acquired for myself as a wife to establish the name of the deceased upon his inheritance, so that the name of the deceased not be cut off from his brothers and from the gate of his place [viz. 3:9] — you are witnesses this day.
Deuteronomy
If brothers reside together, and one of them dies having no son, let the wife of the dead man not marry outside [the family] to a strange man; her brother-in-law will consummate with her thus marrying her to be his wife, and perform levirate marriage with her.
