Commento su Ester 2:7
וַיְהִ֨י אֹמֵ֜ן אֶת־הֲדַסָּ֗ה הִ֤יא אֶסְתֵּר֙ בַּת־דֹּד֔וֹ כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין לָ֖הּ אָ֣ב וָאֵ֑ם וְהַנַּעֲרָ֤ה יְפַת־תֹּ֙אַר֙ וְטוֹבַ֣ת מַרְאֶ֔ה וּבְמ֤וֹת אָבִ֙יהָ֙ וְאִמָּ֔הּ לְקָחָ֧הּ מָרְדֳּכַ֛י ל֖וֹ לְבַֽת׃
Ed egli allevava Hadassà, altrimenti Ester, figlia di un suo zio, poiché non aveva né padre né madre. La fanciulla era di belle forme e di bell'aspetto, e morti suo padre e sua madre, Mordocheo se la prese per figliuola.
Rashi on Esther
As a daughter. Our Rabbis explained, “for a house” [i.e., לְבַת=לְבַיִת, meaning, as a wife.8Maseches Megillah 13a. Apparently בת here does not mean [lit.] daughter, because Esther was not his child.
