עַל־מָה֙ אֲנַ֣חְנוּ יֹֽשְׁבִ֔ים הֵֽאָסְפ֗וּ וְנָב֛וֹא אֶל־עָרֵ֥י הַמִּבְצָ֖ר וְנִדְּמָה־שָּׁ֑ם כִּי֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֵ֤ינוּ הֲדִמָּ֙נוּ֙ וַיַּשְׁקֵ֣נוּ מֵי־רֹ֔אשׁ כִּ֥י חָטָ֖אנוּ לַיהוָֽה׃
'Perché restiamo fermi? Radunatevi e entriamo nelle città fortificate, e lasciamoci tagliare là; poiché il Signore nostro Dio ci ha tagliato e ci ha dato da bere acqua di fiele, perché abbiamo peccato contro il Signore.
